Question 1

Can the DuroStar DS13000MX run a central air conditioner?

Accepted Answer

Yes — comfortably. A 3-ton central AC unit typically needs 3,500–4,000 running watts with a starting surge of 6,000–7,000 watts. The DS13000MX's 13,000 starting watts handle that surge easily, leaving plenty of capacity for other essentials.

Question 2

How long will the DS13000MX run on a 20-pound propane tank?

Accepted Answer

Not long enough to matter — roughly 2.5 to 3 hours at half load. DuroStar recommends a 40-pound tank minimum for practical runtime. For extended outages on propane, a 100-pound tank or larger is ideal.

Question 3

Is the DuroStar DS13000MX safe to run indoors or in a garage?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely not — never run any gasoline or propane generator indoors, in a garage, or near windows and doors. The built-in CO Alert system adds protection, but it's a last resort, not a license to operate in enclosed spaces. Always run it outdoors, at least 20 feet from your home.

Question 4

What's the difference between the DS13000MX and the DS13000MXT?

Accepted Answer

The MXT is the tri-fuel version, adding natural gas capability on top of gasoline and propane. If you have a natural gas line at home, the MXT offers even more fuel flexibility — but it typically costs a bit more.

Question 5

Does the DuroStar DS13000MX come with a battery for electric start?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The 12V battery, remote key fob, battery tender for storage, and wheel kit are all included in the box. Just note that the unit ships without oil — you'll need to add about 1.2 liters of 10W-30 before the first start.
